The African Ambassadors Economic Forum in Washington DC

The African Ambassadors Economic Forum in Washington DC, organized by the Global Initiative For the Adv?ancement of Africa (GIAA) and Hope Edge International, have been truly transformative. It had quite a diverse audience in attendance and a remarkable blend of learning, networking, and forging meaningful connections. It was mind expanding. Others and I had an opportunity to pitch our businesses during the private business to business networking session.

I had the honor of being conferred with an honorary Ph.D. (my second), in Strategic Leadership and Business Management from the American Management University. As I stood on that stage, it was an incredibly emotional moment for me. Through all the trials, losses, and challenges I’ve faced- I remember how scared and apprehensive I was in December 2020, wondering how I would handle the weight of responsibility that had suddenly been entrusted to me- I’d say that God has held my hands, and is still holding my hands. I am thankful for the love and support of my children and family, a few close 5 the remnant of the great team at work that remained steadfast and supportive.in spite of the storm. I can confidently say that God has been profoundly good to me.

I also say a heartfelt thank you to my amazing cousin Adiaha Akpan
and her wonderful husband for not only attending the event, but for also helping to capture some of these beautiful photo memories in photos. Your kindness means the world to me. You represented the family well.

Additionally, I had the distinct privilege of presenting an award to the president of Saint Martin, His Excellency Louis Mussington. This experience held deep significance for me. Fun fact: Saint Martin is a stunning Caribbean gem split between its French and Dutch sides, famous for its beautiful resort beaches and vibrant culture.

His humility and simplicity are lessons for many leaders across Africa. A person of value does not need to shout on the rooftop- it can be seen in their actions. True leadership is not measured by the number of followers but by the impact you make, regardless of whether your team is just 2 or as many as 20, 000,000.

Sitting alongside other business leaders in a private session with him and his 2nd Vice President, Her Excellency Bernadette Davis, was a masterclass in humility. It showed me the importance of keeping one’s feet on the ground and not allowing power and influence to get to one’s head.
